He has sung in many languages including Frech, Italian, Spanish, Hebrew, Turkish, Greek, English, Armenian, Arabic and many of its dialects, and recently in Yiddish, and also in Kabyle Berber with a famous Kabyle singer called Idir. In 1965 he was awarded the P:Rix Vincent Scotto. In 1976 he recoeved a gold disc for "Melisa." He was named Singer of Peace by UN Secretary General Kurt Waldheim, and Kofi Annan named him Roving Ambassador for Peace and the Defense of Children.
