Big Bad Voodoo Daddy's irresistible live show and aggressive, musically perceptive approach has proven them over time to be the singular standout among the 90's swing revival. En Vogue
May 23, 2015

En Vogue:  The name rings more than a bell. It invokes memories of a long line of red-hot R&B and pop smashes recorded in the 1990s. Songs like "Hold On," "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)," "Giving Him Something He Can Feel," "Free Your Mind," and “Whatta Man” featuring Salt-N-Pepa, are just a sampling
of the mega hits made famous by the Pop/R&B super group.

Fusing style, sophistication, sass, and sex appeal, the En Vogue formula was magical and the group went on to sell over eight million albums.  Although they embarked on their musical journey nearly 20-years ago, En Vogue’s appeal is greater than ever before. From performing at the NFL Superbowls to The Kentucky Derby, the girls keep adding unique and global project to their already impressive resume.

Set in the East Village of New York City, Rent is about falling in love, finding your voice and living for today. Winner of the TONY Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Rent has become a pop cultural phenomenon with songs that rock and a story that resonates with audiences of all ages.

Based loosely on Puccini's La Boheme, Jonathan Larson's Rent follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York's Lower East Side, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS. The physical and emotional complications of the disease pervade the lives of Roger, Mimi, Tom, and Angel. Maureen deals with her chronic infidelity through performance art; her partner, Joanne, wonders if their relationship is worth the trouble. Benny has sold out his Bohemian ideals in exchange for a hefty income and is on the outs with his former friends. Mark, an aspiring filmmaker, feels like an outsider to life in general. How these young bohemians negotiate their dreams, loves, and conflicts provides the narrative thread to this groundbreaking musical.

This is theatre at its best -- exuberant, passionate, and joyous.

John Hiatt & The Combo
The Taj Mahal Trio
September 10, 2015

American rock guitarist, pianist, singer, and songwriter John Hiatt has played a variety of musical styles on his albums, including New Wave, blues and country. Hiatt has been nominated for eleven Grammy Awards and has been awarded a variety of other distinctions in the music industry.  Hiatt is 40 years into his musical career, and along the way, his songs have attracted many other singers, through whom some have gained a wider world of fans via other artists’ versions —Rosanne Cash’s “Pink Bedroom” and most famously Bonnie Raitt’s hit version of “Thing Called Love.” And in recent years he’s done a series of shows with Lyle Lovett, “our little Smothers Brothers comedy show,” that’s brought out other spins on his art, though elements already familiar to those who’ve been there all along. Alternately bemused and profound, he’s a self-aware chronicler of both his own and others’ stumbles and epiphanies, the tales richer with each step forward.

Celebrating decades of recording and touring that have nearly singlehandedly reshaped the definition and scope of the blues via the infusion of exotic sounds from the Caribbean, Africa and South Pacific, the two-time Grammy winning singer, songwriter, film composer, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist was feted with the Lifetime Achievement for Performance Award at the 13th Annual Americana Honors and Awards.  By approaching the blues from a global perspective, Mahal presents it as part of a broader musical palette, a world canvas. Using traditional country blues as a starting place, Mahal perfumes the pot by mixing a spicy concoction of Afrocentric roots music, a blues gumbo kissed by reggae, Latin, R&B, Cajun, Caribbean rhythms, gospel, West African folk, jazz, calypso, and Hawaiian slack key. The savory dish he serves is both a satisfying and uplifting stew that actually transforms 'singin' the blues’ into
something to be very happy about.

The Winery Dogs
November 6, 2015

It would be easy to call The Winery Dogs a supergroup: Vocalist and guitarist Richie Kotzen made his mark with Poison and Mr. Big, bassist Billy Sheehan has been rocking for decades with Steve Vai, David Lee Roth, Mr. Big and others, and drummer Mike Portnoy was the co-founder of progressive metal superstars Dream Theater. But The Winery Dogs are so much more than a supergroup.

The Winery Dogs, are a cohesive, well-rounded classic-sounding trio with blazing songs that defy expectation.  The push-pull dynamic illustrates how The Winery Dogs toy with established styles and turn them into something special, complete with Sheehan’s acrobatic bass fills and Kotzen’s rapidfire solos, which help The Winery Dogs blend in a way that’s both instantly recognizable and utterly individual.

Paul Anka
November 22, 2015

World renown singer/songwriter/actor Paul Anka first became famous in the late 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s with hit songs like “Diana,” “Lonely Boy,” “Put Your Head On My Shoulder,” and “(You’re) Having My Baby.  He also wrote such well-known music as the theme for The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, and one of Tom Jones’s biggest hits, “She’s A Lady,” as well as the English lyrics for Frank Sinatra’s signature song, “My Way”.  He’s worked with a diverse band of acclaimed artists, including Peter Cetera, Celine Dion, Kenny G, Patti LaBelle, and the late Michael Jackson.  In fact, Anka co-wrote Jackson’s posthumous #1 worldwide hit, “This Is It.”

Frank Sinatra’s 100th Birthday Celebration featuring Frank Sinatra, Jr.
SINATRA SINGS SINATRA
December 12, 2015

On what would be ol’ blue eyes’ actual 100th birthday, The Saban is pleased to welcome Frank Sinatra, Jr., performing the songs of his father.  It’s a multimedia centennial celebration, and fitting tribute to one of the world’s most beloved entertainers.  When you think Sinatra, you think of the greatest music ever performed.  And tonight, Frank, Jr., backed by a full-fledged orchestra that is as fine as any group of its kind, past or present, takes us on a musical journey fit for The Chairman of the Board.

The songs of Sinatra need to be sung (“Strangers In The Night,” “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” “New York, New York,” and so many, many more) especially on this day, his 100th birthday celebration.
