Kansas
September 5, 2015

KANSAS has spent more than four decades as a part of the soundtrack of the lives of multiple generations of music lovers.

The band has produced eight gold albums, three sextuple-Platinum albums (Leftoverture, Point of Know Return, Best of KANSAS), one platinum live album (Two for the Show), and a million-selling gold single, ‘Dust in the Wind.’ KANSAS appeared on the Billboard charts for over 200 weeks throughout the ‘70's and ‘80's and played to sold-out arenas and stadiums throughout North America, Europe and Japan. ‘Carry On Wayward Son’ was the #2 most played track on classic rock radio in 1995 and went on to #1 in 1997.  The band has continued to tour and record ever since.

Kansas continues to remain a fixture at Classic Rock Radio, and has a whole new audience through their unmistakable presence on the popular video games Rock band and Guitar Hero, and through their songs inclusion in various television shows, such as Supernatural ad South Park, and in films such as Old School and Anchorman.

John Hiatt & The Combo
The Taj Mahal Trio
September 10, 2015

American rock guitarist, pianist, singer, and songwriter John Hiatt has played a variety of musical styles on his albums, including New Wave, blues and country. Hiatt has been nominated for eleven Grammy Awards and has been awarded a variety of other distinctions in the music industry.  Hiatt is 40 years into his musical career, and along the way, his songs have attracted many other singers, through whom some have gained a wider world of fans via other artists’ versions —Rosanne Cash’s “Pink Bedroom” and most famously Bonnie Raitt’s hit version of “Thing Called Love.” And in recent years he’s done a series of shows with Lyle Lovett, “our little Smothers Brothers comedy show,” that’s brought out other spins on his art, though elements already familiar to those who’ve been there all along. Alternately bemused and profound, he’s a self-aware chronicler of both his own and others’ stumbles and epiphanies, the tales richer with each step forward.

Celebrating decades of recording and touring that have nearly singlehandedly reshaped the definition and scope of the blues via the infusion of exotic sounds from the Caribbean, Africa and South Pacific, the two-time Grammy winning singer, songwriter, film composer, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist was feted with the Lifetime Achievement for Performance Award at the 13th Annual Americana Honors and Awards.  By approaching the blues from a global perspective, Mahal presents it as part of a broader musical palette, a world canvas. Using traditional country blues as a starting place, Mahal perfumes the pot by mixing a spicy concoction of Afrocentric roots music, a blues gumbo kissed by reggae, Latin, R&B, Cajun, Caribbean rhythms, gospel, West African folk, jazz, calypso, and Hawaiian slack key. The savory dish he serves is both a satisfying and uplifting stew that actually transforms 'singin' the blues’ into
something to be very happy about.

George Thorogood
September 17, 2015

In 1973, a barely-out-of-his-teens Wilmington guitarist piled his gear into the drummer’s Chevy van to play their very first gig at a University of Delaware dorm. More than 4 decades, over 8,000 live shows, and some 15 million albums sold worldwide later, that same maverick guitar-slinger is still making electrifying music, still thrilling audiences, and still the most bad-to-the-bone performer in rock.

It’s 2015, and George Thorogood & The Destroyers are Badder Than Ever. For George and his longtime band – Jeff Simon (drums, percussion), Bill Blough (bass guitar), Jim Suhler (rhythm guitar) and Buddy Leach (saxophone) – their new Badder Than Ever Tour is indestructible proof that staying true to yourself and the music can still mean something. And with a catalog of classics that includes “Who Do You Love”, “I Drink Alone”, “One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer”, “Move It On Over”, “Bad To The Bone” and more, being able to share it with audiences is what will always matter.

Michael McDonald
September 26, 2015

Two notes. That’s all it takes to recognize the voice of Michael McDonald.  Distinctive and soulful, it is one of the most yearningly emotive instruments of our times.  To this add formidable songwriting and keyboard skills, and you have an artist who has been a singular musical presence for four decades. From ‘70s-era Doobie Brothers classics such as “What A Fool Believes” and solo hits like “I Keep Forgettin’” through two highly-acclaimed Motown albums, genre-busting guest spots and innovative concept shows, the five-time Grammy Award winning McDonald is both timeless and ever-evolving.

Beyond his music, McDonald has long been an active humanitarian. He has lent his talents and energies to many causes and benefits, including MusiCares, the National Council of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, the 7UP Grammy Signature Schools Program and was part of a star-studded lineup at Kokua For Japan, a concert that raised $1.6 million for tsunami relief.

Gary Lewis & The Playboys
October 4, 2015

It was the summer of 1964 when Gary Lewis and The Playboys were discovered by producer Snuff Garret. Before long, with the producer/arranger team of Garrett and Leon Russell behind them, they took their first single, This Diamond Ring straight to number one. After their second hit titled Count Me In went to number two, Gary and the band proved that they would be a continued success. They followed with more Top 10 songs such as Save Your Heart For Me, Everybody Loves A Clown, She's Just My Style, Sure Gonna Miss Her, and many more.

In 1965 Gary himself was Cash Box magazine's "Male Vocalist of the Year", winning the honor over other nominees Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra. He was the first and only artist during the 1960's to have his first seven releases reach Billboard magazine's Top 10 on the Hot 100 chart.

With the reoccurring interest in oldies music, Gary Lewis & The Playboys are one of the hottest acts around. Gary Lewis, along with the Playboys, continues to tour and entertain fans across the country and abroad.  And you’d better believe, when Gary Lewis comes out on the stage, the audience still screams.   When Gary begins to sing, the people move to the popular beat while still in their seats, and when Gary has ended a song, they shout for more.

Madeleine Peyroux
October 29, 2015

“The only thing that matters is the song,” says singer-songwriter Madeleine Peyroux.  That conviction along with a ‘one of a kind’ voice, has carried this jazz artist from busking on the street of Paris all the way to mainstream recognition.  Through intensely distinctive renditions of old classics and modern tunes by the likes of Leonard Cohen and The Beatles, Peyroux has proved to be an uncannily insightful ‘interpreter’ with her consistently impeccable choice of material.

Much like Ray Charles, who in 1062 jelled R&B, Gospel Country and Jazz, Madeleine is at a nexus of styles blending Jazz, Blues, Country and Pop.

$1.00 from each ticket sold will be donated to a local domestic violence charity of Madeleine’s choice.

The Winery Dogs
November 6, 2015

It would be easy to call The Winery Dogs a supergroup: Vocalist and guitarist Richie Kotzen made his mark with Poison and Mr. Big, bassist Billy Sheehan has been rocking for decades with Steve Vai, David Lee Roth, Mr. Big and others, and drummer Mike Portnoy was the co-founder of progressive metal superstars Dream Theater. But The Winery Dogs are so much more than a supergroup.

The Winery Dogs, are a cohesive, well-rounded classic-sounding trio with blazing songs that defy expectation.  The push-pull dynamic illustrates how The Winery Dogs toy with established styles and turn them into something special, complete with Sheehan’s acrobatic bass fills and Kotzen’s rapidfire solos, which help The Winery Dogs blend in a way that’s both instantly recognizable and utterly individual.

Duncan Sheik & Suzanne Vega
November 7, 2015

After breaking through in the late 90s with his Top 20 single “Barely Breathing,” Duncan Sheik spent much of the subsequent decade taking a breather from the usual rock singer/songwriter rituals.  His focus was on albums that broke with pop music conventions and, additionally, theatrical musicals like Spring Awakening, the Broadway sensation that won him 2 Tony Awards and a Grammy.  Lately, he has come full swing, releasing an album called Duncan Sheik Covers 80s.

Widely regarded as one of the most brilliant songwriters of her generation, Suzanne Vega emerged as a leading figure of the folk-music revival of the early 1980s.  Since the release of her self-titled, critically acclaimed 1985 debut album, she has given sold-out concerts in many of the world’s best-known halls.  Her debut LP sold 1,000,000 and her second album, released in 1987, Solitude Standing,  sent Vega sailing to star status, was nominated for three Grammys, and was certified Platinum. And that was just the beginning….

Merle Haggard & Kris Kristofferson
December 9, 2015

When discussing Merle Haggard and Kris Kristofferson, you can’t help but use the word “legends,” and tonight promises to be legendary, with these two country music stalwarts co-headlining this very special evening.

Veteran singer/songwriter/guitarist/producer/bandleader Merle Haggard is still making some of the most compelling music of his long and storied career.  It almost goes without saying that Merle Haggard is widely regarded as country music's greatest living recording artist.  A rugged individualist who simultaneously embodies and transcends the genre, Haggard is both a seminal superstar and an unrepentant outsider.  Over the course of a remarkably prolific five-decade career, he's consistently shown himself to be an uncompromising creative force, far more concerned with pursuing his iconoclastic vision than with meeting the expectations of the music-industry establishment.

Along the way, Haggard has scored no less than 39 #1 country hits; won various Grammy, CMA and ACM awards; become the only California-born artist in the Country Music Hall of Fame; been the only country performer ever featured on the cover of the jazz bible Downbeat; as well as the only man to be invited to perform at the White House and invited to serve time in San Quentin Penitentiary.

Kristofferson is a Country Music Hall of Famer who ranks among the most versatile of American talents. He’s been a Golden Gloves boxer, a Rhodes scholar, a college football player, an acclaimed actor, a military officer, a helicopter pilot, a Grammy-winner, and an icon.  But above all, to Kris, it’s the music that matters most.

His repertoire includes “Bobby McGee,” “Sunday Mornin’ Coming Down,” “For The Good Times,” “Help Me Make It Through The Night,” “Lovin’ Her Was Easier,” “Why Me,” “The Taker,” “The Silver Tongued Devil and I,” “Come Sundown,” “Please Don’t Tell Me How The Story Ends,” and the list goes on and on….  Likewise, the plethora of artists who have covered Kristofferson’s songs reads like a “who’s who” of stars in the musical limelight; testament to his stature as one of America’s most well loved and highly regarded musical institutions.

Zappa Plays Zappa
December 11, 2015

Zappa Plays Zappa continues a timeless musical legacy. He is both the modern face of Zappa music and the person who can bring it fully-formed into the future. The ‘Ahead of Its Time’ moniker frequently slapped onto Frank’s music is brought to life for modern audiences, who are still able to full-sensory witness the spectacular specimens of some of American music’s most original, unrepentant and boundlessly experimental canons, thanks to Dweezil and five other telepathic musicians.

Through artful reshaping & rekindling of his father’s timeless music, featuring Frank’s trademark incredibly complex compositions and perfect execution, Dweezil applies his talent to exposing, performing and shamelessly proselytizing music that literally is in his blood. This tour also celebrates ten years of Zappa Plays Zappa performing shows worldwide and of Dweezil proving his goal of forming a core band of previously unknown expert musicians capable to respectfully execute his father’s music; and winning them two Grammy Awards along the way.

Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the release One Size Fits All in 1975, the five-member Zappa Plays Zappa recreate live the final studio album from Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention.

Dweezil Zappa Guitar Masterclass – Dweezilla On The Road
December 11, 2015

For the price of a fuzz pedal, learn techniques from the son of Frank Zappa.  Dweezil Zappa’s music camp, Dweezilla, has a motto: “Learn And Destroy.”  It refers to destroying the boundaries that confine music creativity.  At camp, students are in total immersion for 4 days of music instruction.  While on tour with Zappa Plays Zappa, Dweezil will be previewing some of the guitar concepts he teaches at camp in a special event prior to each concert.

“I transformed my guitar technique before starting Zappa Plays Zappa out of necessity to play my dad’s most sophisticated and challenging melodies.  I’ve found a lot of exciting new approaches to the guitar.  I started Dweezilla music camp as a way to share this information with guitarists.  I’m excited to present an opportunity to share thoughts on my approach to guitar with students of all levels before each show on tour.”
